Interpreters from Japan Work Visa
At a glance
Interpreters from Japan can be granted a work visa to work in tourism-related industries in New Zealand for a maximum of 3 years. The visa is for Japanese citizens who can interpret and translate between Japanese and English. Employers must provide guarantees for the interpreter's maintenance, accommodation, and repatriation. [WI10]
How to apply
An application follows the standard work visa application process. The applicant must hold a full-time job offer from a New Zealand employer in a tourism-related industry. Immigration officers must sight a full-time job offer that meets the requirements of these instructions. [WI10] The applicant also needs to satisfy health and character requirements (see the health and character instructions) and the generic temporary entry requirements.[WI10]
Eligibility criteria
The applicant must demonstrate the following: [WI10]
- they are suitably qualified to interpret and translate Japanese and English;
- they provide a guarantee of maintenance that covers wages or salary and medical insurance for medical treatment not covered under the Accident Insurance Act 1998;
- they provide a guarantee of accommodation for the entire stay in New Zealand;
- they provide a guarantee of repatriation or deportation costs at the end of employment, regardless of the reason for termination;
- they meet health and character requirements (see generic health and character instructions).
Preference is given to young people with a background in tourism-related industries who intend to return to Japan and build careers that benefit from their New Zealand experience. [WI10]
